Wens Dimanche

Date of birth: 2001 or 2002, exact date unknown

Place of birth: Port-au-Prince, Haiti

Biography:

Wens Dimanche was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In 2016, he went viral for his ingenious invention: a remote-controlled toy loader truck made entirely out of discarded materials and electronic scraps.

In explaining his process, Wens said:

“I broke down a radio and took the little motors. I connected the power one way, it turned left, and when I connected the power the other way, it turned right. I made connections with wires so the loader could go up and down”

His newest invention, an electrical wash bucket, allows people to wash their hands without threat of contamination thanks to its mechanical faucet and foot pedal; it has become a very important asset for his community, particularly during the pandemic. But, Wens doesn’t do it all alone: his little brother, Adlin, is also a budding inventor.

There’s no telling what the future holds for this very talented duo!

Interesting facts:

  • Wens and his brother Adlin are completely self taught.

  • Their electric bucket is powered by a cell phone battery.
