Wyclef Jean, born Nel Ust Wycliffe Jean, is a musician, lyricist, producer, songwriter, singer and philanthropist born in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti. He immigrated to Brooklyn, New York, at the age of nine before relocating to New Jersey.
As a child, Wyclef was a musical prodigy who learned to play many instruments by ear. He can play 15 different musical instruments, including: the guitar (acoustic and electric), the keyboard and the bongos.
Renowned for his seamless blending of contrasting musical styles, he is regarded as one of the most innovative and influential artists of our time.
Interesting facts:
Along with his cousin Prakazrel "Pras" Michel and their school mate, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef founded the best selling hip hop supergroup Fugees.
He has published a memoir titled "Purpose: An Immigrant's Story"
As a solo artist, Wyclef has released multiple commercial hits including: "We tryin' to stay alive", "Gone till November" and "Thug Angels".
