Biography:
Jean Wiener was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. As a child, he loved the ocean but he was saddened by the state of Haiti's grossly polluted shores.
At the age of 17, he left Haiti to study medicine in the United States. However once there, he reconnected with his love of the ocean and pursued studies in Marine Biology instead. He later returned to his homeland and founded the Fondation pour la Protection de la Biodiversité Marine (FoProBim) with the intent of restoring marine wildlife while providing sustainable economic opportunities for the local community.
Jean Wiener's tireless efforts have led to the protection and management of Haiti’s coastal and marine ecosystems.

He received the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2015.
