Biography:

André Vilaire Chéry was born in Camp-Perrin, Haiti. From a young age, he was passionate about the Arts and Litterature. He moved to Port-au-Prince to attend university where he earned degrees in Litterature; Psychology and Linguistics.

His first publication, a dictionnary, highlighted Haiti's linguistic evolution since the fall of the Duvalier regime in 1986. Written in two parts, it was released in 2000 and 2002, respectively.

Following this, he published a critically acclaimed anthology of essays which includes: "Le Chien comme Metaphore en Haïti" (2004), where he analyzes the status of the "chien" (dog) in Haiti's cultural lexicon and abroad; and "Haïti: que faire? Une allégorie pour notre temps " which attempts to dissect the unstable situation in which Haiti finds itself in today.

André Vilaire Chéry was editor-in-chief at Editions Henri Deschamps for 30 years before his retirement in 2021.
